Season Highlights
Welcome to the 32nd Season of your Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival! It’s difficult to believe that our opening concert is coming soon. One of the greatest challenges Jon and I face around this time is selecting highlights for your season brochure. The musical riches—in both repertoire and stellar artists—are vast and incomparable. Nevertheless, we are asked to produce…
August 1 marks the third consecutive Festival appearance of the Tokyo String Quartet, whose breathtaking performances have stunned capacity audiences in Wellfleet each season. Citing our enthusiastic audiences, Wellfleet’s fantastic concert venue and the warm Festival atmosphere, the Quartet feels thrilled to return again and again.
Our first week ends with a highly anticipated appearance of the Grammy-nominated Quartet San Francisco, whose program of tango and jazz will enchant and inspire. The Quartet—with first violinist and returning Festival artist Jeremy Cohen—will be in residence for the week with educational and outreach activities in various locations.
A very special collaboration with the Chatham Chorale Chamber Singers begins our second week. This phenomenal group joins the acclaimed Cypress String Quartet to perform some rarely heard gems of Handel and Schubert. This exciting Chatham event is sure to sell out, so plan early.
We commemorate dear Festival friend Bernie Greenhouse’s 95th birthday with the annual return of the Borromeo String Quartet. In Bernie’s honor, the celebrated Laurence Lesser joins the Quartet in Schubert’s moving Cello Quintet.
A wide variety of repertoire bears treasures for all: from Bach and Mozart to Liszt (who turns 200 this year), Morton Gould and Anton Arensky. The Festival concludes in spectacular fashion with two masterworks of the chamber literature: Schubert’s Trout Quintet and Beethoven’s monumental Septet.
We can’t wait to share the summer with you. See you soon!
